Who is on the Dole? The biggest story in Hoboken politics is being treated like any other news event. I'm sorry but when someone in our city government is taking bribes, that is major news. It has widely been reported that someone high up in the Hoboken politics during the Russo administration was on the "dole." But no one is saying who. Perhaps all of our local newspapers don't have the resources or commitment to investigative journalism.
Since moving to Hoboken 15 years ago, I have always heard about corruption in this city and Hudson County, but it is not like anyone is holding our politicians under the microscopic glare of the media. So here's a suggestion. With all the up and coming film-makers in Hudson County, I suggest a new reality TV show: Who is on the Dole? Get out those digital cameras and start following people around and taping city meetings! Ask all of them directly: Are you on the dole? Watch 'em squirm! While I wish Russo well with his health, the timing of his resignation with the ongoing speculation makes great reality TV. Let's find out who is on the Dole! If no one else is watching, I am.

Editor's note: The story of the bribes was carried on the cover of both local newspapers. Additionally, newspaper articles contain facts, not rumors. The Attorney General's Office, with its powers to subpoena, conduct sting operations and demand interviews, has been looking into corruption in Hoboken for more than six years, but has not announced its findings, which shows that to accuse someone of a serious crime like corruption requires an extremely high standard of evidence. When we uncover concrete evidence, or when official word of corruption is announced, it will promptly be written about in the newspaper, and it always has been.
