I would like to take this opportunity to tell you why I am supporting Beth Mason's candidacy in the upcoming election.
For some background, I have lived in Hoboken for 12 years, my wife for 21. We've lived through Hoboken's changes throughout this period. Until recently, we felt that our input into the political process would have little effect. But things are changing, and because of Beth's candidacy, we feel that there is a person running whose interests are for the community's greater good, not her own personal gain.
Beth Mason is hard working. She is proactive. She is open to all ideas but doesn't hide from taking a stand. She has not been tainted by years of being entrenched in the political arena. Beth refuses to accept the comment, "That's the way it's always been." Beth is interested in reaching out to everyone. She proved this in the fight against the Stevens Athletic Complex. She coordinated a series of ads in the Hoboken Reporter urging people to get involved, and they did.
The current administration is concerned because Beth can mobilize people, raise money, find the best professionals in various fields so that she arrives at solutions to the problems at hand that will benefit all -- even if the solution is contrary to what City Hall wants.
Beth does this not for the benefit of the few who have the correct ties and desired financial standing. She is running so that all members of this community will have a strong advocate, one who will give their needs consideration. Beth is not a politician, but like Mayor Bloomberg in New York, she feels the need to offer herself to the community. Beth has a strong business background, coupled with a strong moral compass, that will benefit this city and see it through the tough decisions ahead. After decades of the "Old Boy Network" in Hoboken, it will be a breath of fresh air to have some new blood representing us.
