I take deep offense at what you said about our police department

Dear Editor:

As the wife of a veteran Hoboken Police Officer and the mother of a son and daughter on the Hoboken Police Department, I was offended and saddened by a letter written by Jerry Reits "I was shocked!" in Sunday, January 20's letter to the editor section.

My children are third generation cops, something we are all proud of. Over the years, my husband has changed flat tires for senior citizens and diapers for infants found unattended in their homes. My children have settled family disputes, landlord/tenant disputes and have returned elderly people who were lost or disoriented safely back to their homes. They have all spent time comforting the loved one of someone who had died unexpectedly.

I have personal knowledge of dozens of police officers from the chief on down who volunteered their own time at Ground Zero after the September 11 tragedy. Mr. Reits, does this sound like rude, unsympathetic people who don't know the meaning of "Protect and Serve?" I don't think so! Maybe it's you Mr. Reits that have a way of bringing out the worst in people.
