We are not morons!

Dear Editor: In response to the letter to the editor , June 11, "Obscene parking rules" from Hoboken PEO officer, I thought the letter to the editor, "Residents getting the brunt of parking problems" May 28, 2000, was extremely well written and right on target. Certainly not the writing of "a drunken moron strolling down Washington Street as the PEO implies. Although I must admit I do not know the writer's identity, the PEO states, "parking rules should not be changed to patronize those who feel it affects the quality of life in Hoboken." I'm curious to know if that includes everyone or whomever the PEO feels like giving a summons to. What about the PEO's own car which on any day is parked in front of City Hall at the 20-minute meter or who works all day long with the meter expired? What about the private cars of Hoboken's finest double parked up and down Hudson Street; sometimes parked right in the crosswalk of the streets they are supposed to be protecting. When the PEO speaks of urban pioneers, does he mean to include the invasion of construction companies whose workers park wherever they want or better still, block off whole streets and create lots for their vehicles. Only a "moron" parks at bus stops, hydrants or double parks? Especially if the "moron" has a family to support and cannot afford to pay anymore violations. I would like to ask the PEO if he or she has actually seen any vehicles parked only 25 feet from any corner in the city of Hoboken. As a 10-year resident of this town, I never have! If the PEO thinks the constant acts of hypocrisy and injustice regarding the parking situation (rules and regulations) in Hoboken are going unnoticed, then I think maybe his or her perception is seriously distorted. Even my six-year-old daughter asks why some people are allowed to park anywhere they wish, while others can't? Common sense and logic should prevail, but unfortunately in this town--that's just a dream! A Hoboken Resident
